Single Notes

‘Ebony and Ivory’ was Paul's first duet with a major artist, and reached Number One in both the US and UK, spending seven weeks at the top of the US charts. It was also ranked as the 69th biggest hit of all time by Billboard and became Paul’s most successful single since The Beatles.

It came from a thought, something I’d read by Spike Milligan, the British comedian. Spike had said that on the piano keyboard the black and white keys live perfectly happily, side by side, so why don’t we? Get on together? You know, us humans? I liked that idea, so I turned it into a song.
