Organised by Paul as a way of honouring the memories of the victims of the 9/11 attacks, The Concert for New York City was held at Madison Square Gardens on 20th October 2001 and featured performances from a vast array of musicians, including David Bowie, The Who, Bon Jovi and Jay-Z. The five-hour concert helped raise $35 million and was closed by Paul who premiered a new song, ‘Freedom’, written in the aftermath of the attacks.
