On 4th April 2009, Paul McCartney headlined the Change Begins Within benefit concert at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. He was joined on stage by special guests Ringo Starr, Sheryl Crow, Donovan, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Moby, Paul Horn, Bettye LaVette and Jim James. Change Begins Within raised funding and awareness for the David Lynch Foundation to help teach one million at-risk children to meditate, giving them life-long tools to overcome stress and promote peace and success in their lives. In 1968, the Beatles, Donovan, and Paul Horn travelled to India to study Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The trip’s dramatic impact was evident on their music and is credited for encouraging the acceptance of meditation in the West today. “I like the idea of bringing an ancient practice into the modern world,” Paul commented. “Who would have thought that by introducing meditation into the education system you could lower people’s aggression levels and get a more peaceful society?”
