Stack’s Bowers Galleries, one of the oldest and largest rare currency auction houses in the world, is honoured to once again partner with The Royal Mint of the United Kingdom for an auction sale. Presented in a special auction on March 19, 2025, will be a bespoke set of Presentation Edition gold and silver coins taken from Royal Mint's recent Music Legends series honouring Paul.

Struck in 5 kilogram formats, these magnificent treasures deliver an incredible visual appeal that is matched only by their rarity. Just one gold and four silver pieces are available for collectors, and they will be presented exclusively through this Stack’s Bowers Galleries auction.

The Royal Mint's Paul McCartney Coin Collection

In honour of Paul's indelible impact on culture and society, The Royal Mint worked directly with Paul himself to develop a truly exceptional coin release. Hand crafted with care and precision under the guidance of Royal Mint CEO Anne Jessopp and the King’s Assay Master Daniel Thomas, these are some of the rarest and most inspiring pieces to emerge from The Royal Mint in the modern era. When asked how it felt to be commemorated on such a coin, Paul responded, “This feels like a huge honour. It’s not anything I would have ever expected to happen when I was a kid.”

The gold 5 kilogram piece represents the largest gold Proof coin produced as part of The Royal Mint’s Music Legends series. It took more than 250 hours to make, including three days of polishing. Hand-signed by Paul during his 2024 Got Back tour in Paris, it is a truly unique and inspiring treasure like Paul himself. In addition, the winning bidder will receive a short video from Paul congratulating them on their acquisition.

Only four of the silver 5 kilogram pieces exist in this Presentation format, excluding a fifth example that was gifted to Paul. Like the gold counterpart, these silver coins are the largest silver Proof coins in the Music Legends series and reflect the first time Paul has been honoured on a British coin.

Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint said, “This is an exciting opportunity for collectors and fans of Paul McCartney to own a unique item celebrating one of the most influential music artists and songwriters of all time.

“Each coin available at auction is a testament to the exceptional skills of our craftspeople at The Royal Mint. Taking hundreds of hours to produce, the masterworks crafted from gold and silver feature highlights from Paul’s career and his journey to becoming one of Britain’s most successful artists in history.

“The impressive 5 kilogram gold coin has also been hand signed by Paul during his Got Back tour at the end of last year – a symbol of his personal seal of approval of these iconic one-of-one pieces.”

Each of the Presentation coins is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Paul himself. Every one of these represents a crowning jewel for a world-class collection of British coinage or music memorabilia. Additionally, Paul and The Royal Mint will be donating a percentage of the revenue from this auction to charity, which means that buyers will acquire a historic keepsake while also contributing to a good cause

Brian Kendrella, President of Stack’s Bowers Galleries stated, “It's an incredible honor to be working with Paul McCartney, MPL Communications and The Royal Mint in bringing such rare and iconic works to public auction. Paul McCartney’s timeless music and multigenerational appeal continue to inspire and unite fans across the world, making this a memorable event that all can enjoy.”
