1964 saw the explosion of ‘Beatlemania’ in America; 2024 proved that every year is a good year to be a Paul McCartney fan!
We’re now 60 years on from that iconic moment in music and popular culture history, but the fans remain at the heart of what Paul does: whether he’s performing for sold-out shows in Latin America and Europe, listening to their stories backstage, or replying to their messages on TikTok.
So, as we begin to reflect on the last 12 months, we wanted to hand the mic over to you, the fans, for the final ‘You Gave Me the Answer’ Q&A of 2024. Take it away, folks!
Ross asks: Your current band of Rusty, Brian, Abe and Wix is the line-up you’ve been with the longest. What makes them special to you?
Paul: Thank you, Ross. It’s funny, because we get on so well! You used to hear, particularly in the ‘70s, of bands breaking up and arguing and not lasting. But with this one, we just get on really well. I think everyone knows that I’m kind of like the governor, so that makes it easier, and we don’t have arguments. We just get on with it. And the band are such good players. We’ve got it now so we can play, we can discuss things, and we can make decisions within the band. And it works well - we’ve been together now for over 20 years, which is crazy!
May asks: Would you ever consider doing a One Hand Clapping-style album with your current band?
Paul: Well, May, with Wings it was a spontaneous idea. We had some time off, so it was a nice opportunity to go into Abbey Road Studios and record some tracks. So, we’d have to see if there is another spontaneous moment that gets us into the studio in a similar vein.
Sheryl asks: With the Got Back tour closing in London so close to Christmas, what are your plans for the holiday season after tour? A well-deserved rest, I hope!
Paul: Yes, Sheryl! A well-deserved rest, exactly. It’s Christmas, so it’s family time for me. We’ve got the decorations up already actually. And I’m one of those guys that loves to overdo decorations, so I need a minute to sit back, relax and enjoy them. So, that’s what I’ve got to look forward to... And a very happy Christmas to you!
Eileen asks: As the year winds down, what are you most thankful for?
Paul: My family, as always; my kids and Nancy, who are all great people. I love them. With them and the grandkids, I’ve got a really enjoyable family to hang out with, particularly at Christmas with all the presents. They say, ‘Thanks, Grandad, for the presents. I love them!’ And that’s just Nancy! Haha! Thank you, Eileen, for your question.
May asks: Do you have any New Year’s resolutions for 2025?
Paul: Here’s one: finish an album! I’ve been working on a lot of songs, and have had to put it to the side because of the tour. So, I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs. So, how’s about that? ‘My New Year’s resolution is to finish a new album!’
How about that for a teaser? You can do it, Paul!
So, as Paul said over on Spotify: “It’s a wrap!” Thank you so much for visiting PaulMcCartney.com this year, and we’ll see you again in 2025.
